Arizona’s Mountain Bike Race, Cave Creek Cactus Classic, is building a great reputation as one of the best, if not the best, mountain bike race in the state. This event has it all, over 23 miles of beautiful mountain and Sonoran desert trails.
The race starts in the heart of the very unique town of Cave Creek. The route then passes through one of two county parks. Spur Cross Conservation Area will be the first, which includes multi-track trails to single track trails, then in between the two parks you will hit Maricopa Regional Trail. This will take you right into Cave Creek Regional Park where incredible views of the Sonoran desert will be seen on every turn. Then as you head back into town, the route includes some of the best trails owned by the Town of Cave Creek. The town closes a portion of Cave Creek road and you race back into Cave creek where the race began.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the first five finishers for each of the men’s and women’s overall classes. The top three finishers receive a hand made trophy made by local metal artist Ron McGee, created with local rocks as the base of each trophy.
The volunteers make this event more than a race. It’s an experience. The volunteers know what it takes to ride a bike around a demanding course. Riders are treated like the special athletes they are and will be cheered and encouraged through the whole race.
The Kids Kross bike race, starting at 2:30 p.m., is a quarter-mile age appropriate loop on a desert single track with minor obstacles. Kids from age 18 months to 14 years old are encouraged to come get their fun on! Each entry includes a chance to win a new bike.
Early bird pricing of $60 ends on Friday, November 7. Regular registration ends on Thursday, November 12 at 8 p.m. Racers are encouraged to register online before arriving for the race. All race proceeds go directly to advocating for, building, and maintaining sustainable multi-use trails.
